CONFERENCE

At 18 o'clock
Duration: about 2 hours

The Marquenterre Ornithological Park is well identified today as a tourist locomotive in the Bay of Somme.
But by what chance did this last territory conquered from the sea, in the midst of the glorious thirty years, to develop a vast horticultural project transform itself in a few years into a high place of ecotourism welcoming more than 170,000 visitors and well over migrating and nesting birds.
It is an ecological, economic, human and almost spiritual adventure that Paul Jeanson, the son of the creator of the Park, Michel Jeanson, will try to tell to all those who are passionate about the recent history of the region. Opened in 1973, the park is celebrating its half-century this year.
This is an opportunity to recall through images (old photos and videos and unpublished comments) the main stages of its creation and development, and the key figures who have transformed this territory now known well beyond borders.

Paul Jeanson: Son of the founder and Director of Parc du Marquenterre from 1973 to 2003 and member of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

An exhibition on estuaries to discover all summer long

This exhibition aims to introduce people to estuarine habitats and the species that inhabit them, from tiny invertebrates buried in the sand and microalgae, to fish, birds and seals.
It reflects the interactions that exist in these environments where each species is a link in a food chain and each inhabitant has a role to play.
These interconnections make estuaries fragile.

At 18 o'clock

Do birds have a nose?
Some birds are known for their diverse song, others for their unparalleled vision, but historically birds have been considered lacking in sense of smell.
Indeed, no behavior in birds gives any sign of the use of this sense to our eyes.
However, we will see that birds do have a developed sense of smell, whether to find food, to move around or to find a sexual partner.
The birds have not finished surprising us, especially regarding their sensory abilities!
