Les marées
Prepare  your stay
The Baie de Somme has the highest tidal spring tides in the Chanel. There are two high tides and two low tides a day.
At low tide, the sea can retreat up to 12km offshore. At high tide, it goes the opposite way at a speed that can reach 2.55m/s.
In a few minutes, the current drags everything in its path, encircling the sandbanks and covering them with several metres of water.
This is a unique sight, but is also dangerous.

For your own safety, don't go out into the Bay by yourself, check the tides and make sure you have a watch.
Excursions supervised by professional guides are available to discover this exceptional environment in complete safety.
