Philippe CARRUETTE
Ornithologist
Between land and sea , with its 260 ha of dunes, of forests and marshes, Marquenterre Park is a conserved space that will seduce you with its unique landscapes and natural riches.
"I spent my childhood observing the fauna and flora of the Baie de Somme. So it was perfectly natural for me to join the Parc du Marquenterre back in 1987.
Back then, it was already one of the "Mecca" of nature conservancy. I was expecting to manage a kind of strictly protected sanctuary. Was I ever wrong! The Parc du Marquenterre is an area in perpetual flux, and changes with the tides, seasons, and migrations, as well as with every visit. We gain fresh knowledge every day.
Nevertheless, if there was only one thing I’d want to hold onto about my job, it would be the extreme importance of sharing. How could anyone resist the eyes wide with wonder of a child watching the Marquenterre heronry? Nature exudes such an extraordinary vital energy, infusing us every day with a solid dose of optimism. I want each visitor to leave with a greater awareness of eternal renewal."
